Francisco J. Valverde-Albacete

Francisco J. Valverde-Albacete received his Eng. Degree in Telecommunications from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain) in 1992 and his D.Eng. in Telecommunications from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) in 2002.
Before 2013, he was Associate Professor at the Signal Theory and Communications Department, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. He has also visited with National University of Distant Education (Spain) (Computer Languages and Systems department), U. of Strathclyde (UK), U. degli Study di Trento (Italy), and the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI, Berkeley, USA). He is currently Research Fellow in the University Carlos III Madrid. He obtained his research/teaching acreditations in 2006, 2011, and 2015 (for associate professor).

Dr. Valverde-Albacete has developed a multidisciplinary curriculum ranging from speech and language processing, machine learning, data science, bioengineering and applied maths. In 2002 he defended his thesis on a hierarchical multi-level model for language recognition integrated with speech recognition and has since widened his research into Tropical Algebras in connection with Formal Concept Analysis and Exploratory Data Analysis (language, genomic expression data), entropy-based machine learning evaluation and information and multimedia retrieval.

Dr. Valverde-Albacete has published over 60 papers in books, journals and conferences in applied maths, cognitive, speech, and language processing, machine learning and data mining, where his interests lie. For the past 10+ years he has been working specially in activating and understanding Formal Concept Analysis as a bioinspired technique to model cognitive process. He was awarded best paper in the ICFCA 2015 conference and in the 2013 workshop on FCA for IR, jointly held with ECIR’13. He was a keynote speaker in ESCIM 2017. He has participated in 3 european projects (IST, LRE, FP7), 14 from national and regional research programmes and 11 industry-participated ones, combining basic research and transfer of results. He is a member of IEEE and ACM.

His most recent publications can be found in: ResearchGate.
