Ascensión Gallardo-Antolín received her Ph. D. in Telecommunication Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, in 2002. She has been a visiting scientist at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI, Berkeley, USA) in 2005, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI, Saarbrucken, Germany) in 2006 and the Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR, University of Edinburgh, UK) in 2013. Currently, she is an Associate Professor at the Department of Signal Theory and Communications, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain.
She has coauthored more than 80 peer-reviewed papers in international journals and national and international conferences. She has participated in several research projects including some of the Spanish Council on Science and Technology and the UE.
She has received the Best Ph. D. Thesis Award from the Professional Association of Telecommunication Engineers of Spain (COIT) and the Ph. D. Excellence Award from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
Her main research interests include automatic speech recognition, audio classification and segmentation, multimedia information retrieval, auditory and visual salience models and signal processing for multimedia human-machine interaction.
